Great company but not so great service and sole durability $199-249
I bought a pair of these boots in September of 2018. They were my first pair of shoes as a 121 pilot. The time I spent looking for boots/shoes was outrageous. To my surprise I ended up getting boots for two main reasons: durability and comfort. I did however worry about the heat in the summer but I haven’t had any issues yet with over 100 degree days already this year. The boots were purchased as seconds for $199. The regular price was $249. The leather was awesome out of the box and they stretched ever so slightly after I wore them two times. The fit was a little wider in the forefoot for me and this was perfect. I purchased a men’s size 9D and the fit was pretty much in line with other shoes. The shoes had a dull finish so I polished them immediately.
The boots are super comfortable and have continued to provide great support. I used the boots as a single shoe for work and to wear with my jeans. They look great with jeans or your work pants so that;’s good so you don’t look like an idiot wearing shoes that are too dressy for casual jean wear. A shoe that can both be casual and business dress is always a bonus.
About six months after purchasing the boots, the sole wore out. I then attempted to replace the sole while at the same time ordering another pair to have two. This time things didn’t go smoothly. The second pair I received at full price, $249 were damaged. I called Allen Edmund’s and they said “no problem” then offered me money off another pair and was guaranteed two day shipping. The shoes arrived a week later than expected and I had already had my other pair resoled. Resoling with Vibram soles will set you back about $100. Nevertheless the soles are incredible and should last much longer. After sending back both pair it took me over 10 calls and 10 weeks to get my money back. Needless to say I was unhappy with their service. I suggest if you do purchase these shoes, buy from Nordstrom where they value service like no other store.
My review has to be based on all of the factors surrounding the shoes. In our flight crew world we need good shoes, service and a long term relationship due to the fact that we will buy more shoes in the future. The shoe soles were horrible but the shoe quality was good. The service was good at times but horrible with returning my money. Overall, I will buy again but was horribly disappointed with Allen Edmund’s service in returning my money in a timely manner. If you do buy Allen Edmunds, I suggest STRONGLY that you buy at Nordstrom.
